Types of Elevators

There are Hydraulic, Traction and even Vacuum elevators.  Hydraulic elevators, (Hydros) are very popular in low-rise buildings due to their price.  Once you get to above 30' of rise, we start looking at traction elevators.  Vacuum elevators are not very common.  Standard commerical Hydros range from 2,100lb to 5,000lbs capacity.  Specially engineered cars can be as big as your pockets are deep.  The hydraulic cylinder(s) that lift the car up can be in-ground (conventional), or above-ground (holeless).
